3 Major Venue Updates in 2016

THE MOUNTAIN MEGACENTER Marriott International is metro Denver’s new bestie, thanks to the coming-soon Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center. The 1,500-room resort, which broke ground this year, will have nearly a half-million square feet of meeting space once completed in 2018. It’s expected to employ 10,000 construction workers and bring 2,500 permanent jobs to the area. THE GAME CHANGER Already a major player in the meetings market, New York City’s getting another boost with a massive, 1.2 million-sq.-ft. expansion to Javits Center. The largest ballroom in the Northeast and more than 6 million annual meetings delegates make most other destinations look like pennies in the sea. THE MILESTONE Never mind it was a little late to the party in Chicago’s hotel boom of mid-2015, the 380-room Residence Inn Chicago Downtown/Loop opened in November 2015. As Marriott’s 700th Residence Inn property worldwide, it also owns bragging rights as the largest hotel in the brand’s extended-stay portfolio.
