Convention Centers Add Dining-on-Demand Apps

Hungry meeting professionals—and those they plan for—at both Anaheim Convention Center and Javits Center in New York City can now use mobile devices to have meals delivered directly to staff rooms, booths or displays on the expo floor.

ACC and Aramark catering joined forces with Tapin2 on a new in-venue mobile app called ACC-Eats. Since January, the app has been introduced to exhibitors at the Craft & Hobby Association’s MEGA Show, the National Association of Music Merchants Show and the UBM Advanced Manufacturing Expo & Conference. Soon after the initial launch, ACC-Eats rolled out Locally Rooted, a menu on the app with sustainable, farm-fresh local fare.

Not to be outdone, Javits has introduced Market Express, which allows event professionals and exhibitors to request food delivery (via its catering partner Centerplate) to their booth or office across the massive six-block facility. Centerplate also has personnel who can provide assistance with the new platform during events.

“We think this will become the norm among convention centers around the country,” says Tony Sclafani, senior vice president/chief communications officer for Javits. “It provides an exceptional service to customers because it gives them more time to do business.”
