T-Mobile Arena was built to bring an NHL team to Las Vegas, a goal it accomplished. But the latest addition on the Strip will benefit meeting and event planners too. Operated by MGM Resorts International, the new facility can hold up to 20,000 attendees and has 44 luxury suites and eight bunker suites. Groups meeting won’t forget they are in Las Vegas, with huge windows providing views of the Strip; the adjacent, open-air Toshiba Plaza; and The Park, a vast outdoor expanse with a capacity of almost 10,000 people. The on-site Hyde Lounge, an 18,000-sq.-ft. luxury bar, is the place for networking and mingling. “[The arena] is a whole new experience,” says Daniel Rush, vice president of global sports and event sales for MGM Resorts International. “It fills a void in Las Vegas.” Not including any hockey games, early estimates put more than 100 events inside T-Mobile Arena, says Rush. Since opening in April, the arena has hosted concerts like The Killers and Guns N’ Roses and a high-profile boxing match. When T-Mobile Arena first opened, MGM took a conservative approach to booking far out with conferences and events, as to not interfere with a potential pro hockey season. Now that it appears clear the NHL will indeed award a team to Vegas, Rush says they’ll have accurate time parameters to seek out associations and larger companies for events and incentive meetings.
