What I do:
I sell Oklahoma City as a destination for conventions and meetings to potential corporations and associations. I work with our clients and potential clients to coordinate visits to OKC and connect them with our wonderful industry partners.
How I got here:
I started my career in the nonprofit healthcare world. After three years, I realized I’d be better suited as a volunteer to the nonprofit community and applied for a convention servicing job with the CVB. I have thrived at the CVB by creating relationships with clients, soaking up knowledge, and creating my own sales style.
When I started as an executive meetings manager, I had to grow the position from the ground up. I worked hard at cultivating relationships and reached 122 percent of my definite sales goals in year one and am on track to reach 168 percent of my definite sales goal this year.
Specific improvement I’ve made:
Our CVB had not tapped into the LGBTQ market before I arrived. After much research and discussion, it is now one of my designated sales markets. I’ve worked with local community leaders in the LGBTQ community and other CVBs to gain knowledge and really grow this market. This is year two LGBTQ meetings will take place in Oklahoma City.
What I am working on now:
Oklahoma City is in the process of building a new convention center and Omni Hotel. As a sales manager, it’s been challenging to tread in uncharted waters and sell a space that doesn’t yet exist. I am also working diligently on tapping into the Chicago market by visiting once a month and cultivating relationships in a new city.
