What I do: I own and manage an association management company. My company specializes in handling the day-to-day operations for nonprofit scientific associations.
How I got here: I was working as an editorial assistant for four scientific journals and the editor decided to form an association for behavioral neuroscientists. I went from sending out the founding letters to managing their inaugural meeting and their association. Word of mouth in the scientific community has kept me in this role for 31 years for multiple associations.
Impressive stats: Under our management, an association’s membership growth from 515 to 908 members in three years. When we took over management, its 2013 meeting lost money. The profit on the 2015 and 2017 meetings was more than $235,000.
What I am working on now: We just signed on a new association and look forward to watching it grow and prosper with our guidance.
What I do outside of work: I am a semi-professional, passionate, landscape photographer. I am also part of a women’s group that supports a local woman-owned business and artisan.
