Anthony Mancuso, CMP, 37
Director of Convention Sales Development, Visit El Paso
El Paso, Texas
What I do:
wear a lot of hats, but mainly I engage with clients, liaise with city officials, conduct site visits and travel all over the world to spread the message that the Sun City is the best place to meet.
How I got here:
Back when I was a bright-eyed 25-year-old, I began my hospitality journey as a meeting planner. Through a series of fortunate events, I became a supplier in the DMO world. I have done brief stints at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego and the Park Central Hotel San Francisco, but destination sales is where my heart is.
My greatest career accomplishment:
Being a mentor to two young hospitality professionals. I had the guidance of an amazing mentor when I was in my late 20s.
Since starting with El Paso in November 2020, I successfully led the two-person team (myself included) to booking three citywide conventions totaling over $2 million in economic impact.
A specific improvement I’ve made:
Since my coming onboard, we added seven additional shows and reallocated budget to be present at pertinent industry shows. Face-to-face meetings are paramount to success.
What I do outside of work:
I am actively involved in both PCMA and MPI. I also travel extensively with my five best friends all over the country. But my favorite thing to do is be the best ‘guncle’ to my 7-year-old niece and my 5-year-old nephew.
Favorite vacation destination:
My favorite destination to travel to is Fire Island Pines, which is right outside New York City, off the coast of Long Island. It’s been an LGBT haven since the 1950s, and my friends and I have been going every summer since 2012.
It’s a game I like to call Diva House: ‘If you were the owner of a fabulous six-bedroom house, which divas (living or dead) do you place in your other five bedrooms, and why?’ Rules: must be female, must be a singer; no actresses or political figures.
Dry shampoo. It’s a life-changer when you need to freshen up in between sessions.
