Balloons have long been a festive part of events, but they can come across a little too “child’s birthday party.” Ask Claudia Wehrman, CMP, DMCP, director of sales and marketing at AlliedPRA in San Diego, who recalls a time she had a client wanting to wow attendees with a balloon arch at a closing-night reception. “I just laughed,” she says. “I don’t think of balloon arches as a wow.” Putting a new spin on the idea, here are three ways to style balloons. Consider these a breath of fresh air.

Cloud Nine

Re-create this piece of heaven from London’s Covent Garden district, where an artist used 100,000 white illuminated balloons to craft an overhead display resembling clouds on a stormy day.

Top Dog

Working alongside New York City bakery Ron Ben-Israel Cakes for a private event, Shiraz Events created a balloon puppy cake that even Bozo the Clown couldn’t resist.

Blue Hues

On trend with the ombre craze, Karla Conceptual Event Experiences used lighting to create a dramatic ceiling in different shades of blue for an event in Miami.
