Spin Cities: Do You Know These Ferris Wheels?

Once built solely as carnival rides, Ferris wheels have become iconic images in many city skylines and major tourist attractions because of the views they provide. Perhaps none in the world is as famous as the London Eye, but U.S. cities haven’t  been spinning their wheels as the attractions grow in popularity and size. In 2014, new observation wheels popped up in Las Vegas and outside Washington, D.C., and the biggest is yet to come in New York—adding to the options for attendees with free time to explore the city. Modern Ferris wheels have enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas so they can operate year-round. Here’s a look at some of the notable wheels across the country.
