Five small towns make up Tri-Valley, California
, a popular winemaking region with a rich and storied past. Talk about easy marketing for event planners. Those towns—Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton and San Ramon—have an average daily temperature of 68 degrees, which makes Tri-Valley truly suitable as a year-round events destination with outdoor perks. A handful of state parks and numerous golf courses add to Tri-Valley’s stock.
“San Francisco is a mere 40 minutes away, so anyone can easily take their spouse into the city—and who doesn’t want to do that?” says area event planner Darlene Laspina, co-owner of Events by Wallace. “If you’re staging an event here, you’ll definitely get a lower cost than in the Bay Area. And because we have more sunshine than other counties in the area, you can plan outdoor events into October without any worry. We had an event recently that was held outdoors and had zero cost in terms of heating or tenting.

Today it hosts indoor and outdoor events.[/inlinead] Both the San Jose and Oakland airports as viable options for travel into the area, as well as a BART train from San Francisco, which means easy access for add-on days before or after conferences. “The Tri-Valley region is headquarters for companies like Safeway and Workday, which frequently host company training seminars and events,” says Geoffrey Sarabia-Mason, vice president of sales for Visit Tri-Valley. Area hotels run at aabout 79 percent occupancy during the week as a result, Sarabia-Mason, says. One reason is because the area is well-equipped to handle the needs of planners. The award-winning 267-acre Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton offers convention-style meeting space, and 36 area hotels can handle various group sizes. A number of smaller venues, including Murrieta’s Well
(pictured), are all viable options.
