2019 40 Under 40: Danielle Furnari, Geisinger Health

Danielle Furnari

Danielle Furnari, 30, works in Danville, Pennsylvania, as a development specialist—event planning at Geisinger Health. As a 2019 40 Under 40 honoree, Furnari discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: I am part of a team that organizes Geisinger Health and Geisinger Health Foundations events. We start from creating a theme and feel of the event or cause. We then make our creation into a reality by finding logistics, vendors, venues, hotels and registration. We also pull the mailing list, create sponsorship levels, and work with marketing and communications on invitations. Then on the day of the event, we are on-site making sure everything runs smoothly.

How I got here: I started off as a sales coordinator at a Hyatt Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey and then I was promoted to a sales manager. I learned all about sales for corporate rates, transient rates and catering events. My husband and I got married and moved to Pennsylvania, where I was an event coordinator for Benco Dental. I currently work as an event planning specialist for Geisinger Health and Geisinger Health foundation, where I have learned to raise funds for great causes within the hospital through events.

Greatest career accomplishment: One of my largest accomplishments was when our team successfully planned and executed the Geisinger National Symposium with big-ticket speakers such as Hillary Clinton, Ezekiel Emanuel, Dean Ornish, Howard Dean, Gov. Tom Wolf and many more. The event was done in rural Pennsylvania and we had to create the event from the bottom up. We won an American Business Award for Best Live Event for the Symposium.

What I am working on now: I am very excited to be working on so many great events that will benefit the hospitals and in turn the communities we serve. One that stands out is the Superhero Ball, which will benefit our Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. On the corporate side, I am excited to possibly plan a women’s symposium.

What I do outside of work: I am in a local program aimed to involve leaders in our community called Leadership Susquehanna Valley. I also watch many collegiate soccer games, as my husband is a referee for many different divisions in college soccer. I also like to visit Disney when I can to see the magical themes they have in their parks.
