Justin Wusinich from HelmsBriscoe shares his journey to becoming a 40 Under 40.

Justin Wusinich, 30, works in Philadelphia as manager of global accounts at HelmsBriscoe. As a 2019 40 Under 40 honoree, Wusinich discusses his passion for the events industry.

What I do: I research, negotiate and consult hotel/venue site selection for corporate, association and nonprofits around the world for domestic and international meetings. I am a trusted advisor and extension of my client’s event and executive teams in the preplanning and contracting processes. I support a variety of meeting-planner roles with a diverse events portfolio.

How I got here: After receiving my Bachelor’s degree from Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, I started my career with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. This was followed by a role representing the Greater Miami and the Beaches at the CVB. After some eat, pray, love experiences traveling the world and moving around the country, I found my niche with HelmsBriscoe as a hotel/venue site-selection specialist.

Greatest career accomplishment: I was awarded both the Northeast (2017) and Eastern Region’s (Q3 2018) top producer with HB under three years as an associate.

Impressive stats: In 2018, I was able to save a technology company $265,000 (35 percent savings) on its annual meeting.

Specific improvement I’ve made: I have increased team moral by volunteering and applying myself through training, recruitment and expanding other’s business by teaming on international accounts.

What I am working on now: I’m excited to work on more international meetings. It is fun to learn about cultures and how others around the world conduct the hotel/venue search and negotiation process. I enjoy picking up on new languages, negotiation styles and educating myself on cultural differences.

What I do outside of work: Most of my free time is dedicated to finding the best spots to eat and try new restaurants with a palate for gourmet donuts.
