Loretta Champion Johnson, CMP, is director of global accounts at HelmsBriscoe in Ocoee, Florida. As a 2019 Memory Maker, Johnson discusses her passion for the events industry.
What I do: Just like a real estate agent who finds a perfect home for their buyer, I find the perfect city and hotel for my client’s meetings and events, whether it’s domestic or international, and introduce them to other products and services they can benefit from.
Greatest career accomplishment: Becoming one of HelmsBriscoe’s top producers within four years and maintaining that level since. I’m also proud of mentoring hospitality interns, providing them with guidance and industry knowledge.
Impressive stats: I’ve negotiated contracts that saved more than $100,000 in food and beverage, audiovisual, graphic design, entertainment, photography, transportation fees and in-kind donations, to name a few.
Event I am proud of helping produce: I helped a religious conference secure a last-minute hotel after Hurricane Florence hit the Orlando area in 2018. The hotel scheduled to host the conference had major damage to the meeting space and sleeping rooms. After the storm, I had two days to find a new hotel and work with my client to notify attendees of the new location—we pulled it off! The new location did such an outstanding job my client booked the hotel for another year.
