Songs of Peace: World Interfaith Harmony Week

Music has long been a uniting force, as it was this year throughout World Interfaith Harmony Week. The first week of February is designated as a celebration of differences in faith, but uniting in love for the world. First proposed in 2010 by King Abdullah II of Jordan as part of an initiative to help Muslim and Christian leaders intersect, the week was almost immediately adopted by the United Nations. Its mission has now been extended to all faiths as a focal point from which all people of goodwill can recognize the common values they hold far outweigh the differences they have. This year, musical artist Sami Yusuf wrote an anthem specifically for the weeklong celebration, titled The Gift of Love,” played and performed at the thousands of events that took place around the world during this week. The song can be licensed to play at conferences as an interfaith anthem.
