What I do:
I am the CEO of a $7 million sports event organization and race director of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon
within that context. My role is to produce, manage and execute all events within the P3R portfolio and to provide the strategy for the organization.
How I got here:
Prior to my acceptance of my role as race director of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon in 2008, I was active in raising funds for various nonprofits as a volunteer and a stay-at-home mom. As my fundraising capabilities grew, so did the opportunities. I was offered the challenge to bring back the Pittsburgh Marathon, and I gladly accepted. Prior to having kids, I was in a major sales role, so I was eager to go back to a career and knew I could raise the money necessary to bring the marathon back.
Why I am a game changer:
I took on the challenge of being a race director and funded the first several months on my credit card, then was able to build that organization to what we have become today. I have successfully created fiscal diversity, built a reserve that can maintain the organization and kept a team of committed professionals that help make this organization a success. The DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon brings in over $10.2 million in economic impact. Our team recently bid on the 2018-19 U.S. Half Marathon Championships and received that bid.
My greatest career accomplishments:
I am proud of the fact that we have built P3R to support more than 25 people in their careers, and to be able to provide health, dental and a 401K plan to each staff member. My greatest accomplishment is being able to reboot the marathon.
DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon has grown 154 percent; we’ve enjoyed a 360 percent revenue growth for the organization and raised $10 Million for charity in nine years.
What I’m working on:
We are planning the 2018-19 U.S. Half Marathon Championships and working on plans to mark our 10th anniversary.
What I do outside of work:
I am on the Visit Pittsburgh
board of directors and the Robert Morris University sport management advisory board. I enjoy working out in the gym or on my bike.
