What was once a parking lot at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta will soon be the home of the College Football Hall of Fame
. Construction crews began working in late January, and the expected completion date is August 2014. “Venues like the College Football Hall of Fame open up a new world of possibilities for meeting planners,” says William Pate, president and CEO of Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. Plans include 30,000 square feet of exhibit space; a 45-yard, indoor football field that will accommodate 650 banquet-style or 1,200 for receptions; a 150-seat 3D theater; and two additional event spaces for groups up to 400. The 95,000-sq.-ft. building comes with a price tag of more than $66 million. The hall of fame was previously in South Bend, Ind.
