The San Francisco 49ers will still refer to themselves as such, but they won’t play in San Francisco anymore. The team will move from famed Candlestick Park to a new Santa Clara stadium beginning in 2014. The city granted the organization $850 million in construction loans, but sales of personal seat licenses have eclipsed $400 million, which will help the city service the loans. The new stadium will be 40 minutes from Candlestick and will feature 65,000 seats, 370 concession points of sale and will take up more than 1.8 million square feet of space. The stadium will be designed to function as a football field, soccer field, motocross track, concert venue and civic event site.
