Fairfax County, located in Northern Virginia, is within minutes of Washington, D.C., in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Three airports (Dulles International, Ronald Reagan National and Baltimore/Washington International) as well as major roadways and public transportation (including Metro service to D.C.) make it convenient to get in and around the county. Fairfax County’s proximity to the nation’s capital offers easy access to numerous monuments, museums and memorials, most offering free admission. The county is also proud of the many world-class attractions in its own backyard. From George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center to the Tysons Corner shopping district, Fairfax County offers plenty of things to see and do. Culinary choices abound, with restaurants for every taste and budget. Of course, tournament-ready facilities are key, and the county boasts a mix of indoor and outdoor venues that can accommodate a variety of sports events. Fairfax County hosted the 2015 World Police & Fire Games, featuring more than 10,000 public safety athletes from 68 countries participating in 60 sports over 10 days. Fairfax County can handle competitions both large and small!
Fairfax County, Virginia, is an ideal destination to host state, regional, national and international sports events. The location is perfect because it’s adjacent to Washington, D.C., in the middle of the East Coast, with excellent tournament-capable facilities and an amazing variety of things to see and do in the area. Hotel rates are significantly lower in this part of the metro area. I’ve organized numerous soccer, flag football and hockey events over the years in the county and have received positive feedback from tournament participants and spectators. The tremendous support from Visit Fairfax for site and hotel selection assistance has also been a huge plus.”
