The Richmond Region hosted the world in September 2015 when it welcomed cycling fans for the UCI Road World Championships. These fans, like yours, experienced the region’s 17,500 hotel rooms, more than 900 restaurants, class IV rapids, miles of urban trails and more than 90 attractions. It’s no wonder Richmond earned the No. 3 ranking of Best Places to Travel in 2016 by Travel + Leisure.

When looking for a first-class destination for our women’s basketball championship, we looked no further than the River City. Richmond is a destination sports town because of its local businesses, tourism organizations and, most of all, its fans. Being new to the area and having been involved in many national championship tournaments at the NCAA, the level of commitment and involvement of Richmond Regional Tourism and the City of Richmond is unmatched. The staff’s enthusiasm has been vital in making our championship a first-class experience for our student athletes, coaches and fans.

Greater Richmond Convention Center


Greater Richmond Convention Center has 700,000 square feet of available space including 178,000 square feet of contiguous space and a 30,000-sq.-ft. ballroom. In addition to the 12,000-sq.-ft. registration lobby with a cyber cafe, every individual exhibit hall features concessions and the center’s second-floor food court overlooks the exhibit hall. The center features 1,540 parking spaces, lecture halls, more than 30 meetings rooms and 2,010 hotel rooms within 1 mile.

River City SportsplexRichmond_SportsPlex

Spanning 115 acres, River City Sportsplex has 12 all-weather, multipurpose synthetic turf fields—nine of which are lighted. Bleachers are available and concessions, restrooms, a plaza and common areas (vendor village) are on-site. All fields are equipped with soccer, lacrosse and field hockey goals, and seven additional Bermuda grass fields are located at Clover Hill Athletic Complex less than 5 miles away.
