National Events Director, USA Triathlon
Brian D’Amico celebrated USA Triathlon’s first Olympic gold medal this year, won by Gwen Jorgensen. The next champion will surely owe some thanks to D’Amico.
In four years, he has spearheaded several initiatives to build triathlon’s youth base, ultimately overseeing the NGO’s most successful event ever: USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. Between 2013 and 2015, the championships drew more than 4,500 participants and 8,000 to 10,000 fans each year to Milwaukee
, generating an annual economic impact of more than $10 million.
Perhaps D’Amico’s best attribute is his ability to see the big picture. The Youth Splash & Dash Aquathlon Series he devised has grown from 30 events in 2012 to more than 50 in 2016. Not focused solely on youth, D’Amico launched the Retro Tri Series in 2013, paying homage to USA Triathlon’s beginnings in the 1980s.
“Not only is Brian extremely intelligent and hard-working,” says Marissa Werner, Visit Milwaukee’s sports and entertainment sales manager, “but he also has an ability to handle high-stress situations with an overwhelming calmness and professionalism.”
